Actors: Don’t Make This ‘Link in Bio’ Mistake!

Actors…You’ve heard it a thousand times on Instagram: “Link in bio!”

But what should actually be in that link?

If you’re an actor using tools like Linktree, Stan Store, or Beacons, listen up—because this part of your profile can either guide your audience or completely overwhelm them.

(And for the rest of this article, “link in bio” = tools like Linktree, Stan Store, Beacons—not just the single link in your profile)

Let’s first talk about the ‘Jars of Jam’ study 🍓 —yeah, jam, like peanut butter and jelly.

There’s a famous psychology study where researchers offered people either 6 jars of jam or 24 jars of jam to sample. More options seemed exciting…

But the people with fewer choices were actually waaaaay more likely to actually buy something.

😫 Too many options = decision fatigue = people bounce because a confused mind always says NO!

Now think about your ‘Link in Bio’…

If you’re giving visitors 9 different buttons to choose from—guess what?

They’re either leaving and not clicking anything, or completely confused which button to choose.

Because when we’re overwhelmed with choices, we often choose nothing at all. (Remember the Jars of Jam study?)

Even Linktree confirmed it (yeah the link in bio people 😜).

In a recent study, Linktree found that no matter how many options you add, most people only click the first or last link.

So what does that tell us?

What you put at the top and bottom of your ‘link in bio’ is prime real estate. Use it wisely 😉

What Should Actors Put in Their ‘Link in Bio’?

Choose a few clear, compelling links that show what you offer. Here’s a solid lineup for most actors:

✅ Latest Project or Booking (if public)

✅ Your Reel (or if you have a website it can just be that link)

✅ Link to representation or to contact you.

✅ Links to your other social media accounts.

✅ Link to any adjacent coaching or teaching (if relevant)

Heidi’s Pro Tips:

⭐️ Label your links clearly – Not “Click here!” but specific to what they are going to see like…

⭐️ Limit to 3–5 links total. If you must use more- upgrade to the ‘Link in Bio’ option that allows photos or videos to keep it interesting!

⭐️ Put your most important link at the top and your “you’ll regret missing this” link at the bottom.

⭐️ PLEASE update it when things change! Your Link in Bio shouldn’t stay the same for a whole year. In fact, go to your link in bio right now and make sure it doesn’t have old out-of-date news!

Make your Link in Bio clear, intentional, and aligned with your goals. If your dream agent, casting director, or future collaborator clicks it—they should know exactly who you are and what you’re about.
